Sustainability

Our Green Policy

We are dedicated to creating an eco-friendly environment by implementing measures that ensure minimal impact on the planet. Our policies include:

  • Compostable materials for straws, beer mats, takeaway cups, containers, and bin liners.
  • Partnering with sustainable beverage brands like #GiveWineaFuture-certified wineries, Slane Whiskey, and Valentia Island Vermouth, all committed to eco-conscious production methods.
  • No single-use plastics in the bar, using refillable dispensers for condiments.

Traditional pubs, shops, and cafés line the street, including Claddagh Jewellers and Griffin’s Bar, with bright murals and festive flags adding to the charm. Carbon Footprint

Reducing our carbon emissions is a priority. Our efforts include:

  • Recycling glass, plastics, and food waste across all operations.
  • Energy-efficient heating systems, and water-saving faucets and toilets.
  • Concentrated chemical use to minimize packaging and shipping demands.

Conservation

Conservation is woven into our daily practices to reduce, reuse, and recycle resources:

  • Furniture and materials are refurbished for decorative and functional use.
  • Excess fruit and vegetables are preserved or dehydrated for future use, including cocktail garnishes.
  • Coffee grounds are reused by staff for gardening projects.
  • Metal, ceramics, and glass replace single-use plastics wherever possible.

  • Hometree: We plant a tree for every staff member on their birthday.
  • Celtic Salads: Sourced from GEOfood-certified suppliers from the Burren and Cliffs of Moher UNESCO Global Geopark.

Commitment

Our unwavering commitment to sustainability is evident in our operational choices:

  • Employees receive training on waste separation and energy efficiency.
  • Compostable materials and reusable items are provided for all staff and customers.
  • Our menus feature locally sourced food, vegetarian, and vegan options.
  • Our commitment to biodiversity is reflected in partnerships like Slane Whiskey’s restoration of native woodlands and riverbanks.

  • Partnering with sustainable suppliers to promote eco-conscious practices in the industry.
  • Supporting biodiversity through initiatives like native tree planting and cover crop restoration.

Our Sustainability Targets

Our sustainability journey is ongoing, guided by measurable targets:

  • Waste Management: Complete segregation of food, general, and compostable waste, supported by a digital waste-tracking system.
  • Food Waste Reduction: Implementing food waste reduction programs across all departments.
  • Continuous Training: Waste management and sustainability education are ongoing for our team.
