Welcome to M. Fitzgerald’s

Mostly Irish. Always Galway.

The Spirit of Galway

Hide from the rain with an Irish coffee, grab a stool for a late-night session, or catch up with friends over cocktails that carry a story in every sip.

Here, strangers become locals fast.

drinks

Drinks That Speak for Themselves

Our drinks menu is built around bold Irish spirits, local ingredients, and a touch of creative rebellion. Whether it’s the poetic hit of Barry’s Tea syrup in The Poet’s Measure, or the sweet nostalgia of Bella’s Breakfast Martini these aren’t just drinks. They’re moments. Served neat.

Whether you’re celebrating or out for a quiet few, we’ll match your mood with something that tastes like it was made for it.

MUSIC

Live Music, Nightly

Real music, played live, every night of the week.

From trad bangers to guilty pleasures, we keep the good times rolling and the craic full tilt. Weekends turn it up a notch, with Galway’s best keeping the energy high and the pints flowing late.

The soundtrack? Mostly Irish. The vibe? Pure magic.

food

A Taste of Tradition

Our menu is a homage to Irish culinary classics. From hearty seafood chowder served with rustic soda bread to innovative takes on traditional dishes, every bite is crafted with care. Everything we plate up is made fresh in-house, with produce sourced from local suppliers we know and trust. Pair your meal with a selection from our curated list of stouts, whiskeys, and craft beers.

heritage

Bella’s Corner: A Taste of Home

Tucked just beside the bar and brimming with charm, Bella’s Corner is our tribute to the heart and soul of the Fitzgerald family. Bella’s from Clarinbridge, known locally for her wit, her warmth, and her marmalade. And now, that marmalade’s made its way into our bar – on the shelves, in a few of our serves, and always in our hearts. It’s a tribute to home comforts and timeless craft, the kind that never goes out of style.

heritage

Mick’s Snug: Where Stories Are Made

Mick’s Snug is more than just a quiet corner – it’s a legacy in wood and spirit. Named after Michael Senior Fitzgerald, a joiner by trade and the soul behind the space, it’s where generations of work, welcome, and well-earned pints meet. Pull up a stool, take in the craftsmanship, and share a few stories over a good pint. It’s the kind of snug where the walls hold memories, and the welcome is always warm.

PARTIES

Penny Bar – Your Private Corner

The Penny Bar is our private events space – intimate, flexible, and full of quiet character. Whether you’re planning a birthday with a bit of class, a low-key launch, or just gathering your favourite people in one place, The Penny Bar gives you the space to do it your way.

Perfect for:

Featured in Bridgerton’s Galway Visit

We’re honored to have been showcased in a special Netflix feature with ‘Bridgerton’ stars Nicola Coughlan and Luke Newton. Their visit highlighted the authentic Irish hospitality and vibrant atmosphere that M. Fitzgerald’s is known for.

During their visit to Galway, Nicola and Luke, who play Penelope Featherington and Colin Bridgerton, spent time at our Penny Bar, very fitting!

Nicola loved being back in her hometown, and the crew was a joy to work with. Alan Broderick, our manager, shared, “The video is a beautiful tribute to ‘Bridgerton’ and Galway. We’re proud to have been part of this moment and hope it brings fans from around the world to our city.”

Our first experience in an Irish Bar and it was better than we expected. The staff were lovely! Food was delicious! We were lucky to come on Women's Christmas Day so I got a free dessert!

Went in on women's Christmas (01/06/2026) and learned about what it is, and my wife received a free prosecco for it. What a deal, what a tradition! As a starter we had the Asian wings (8/10). For my main dish, I had the Atlantic plate (9/10). My wife's main dish was the Chicken and mushroom vol au vent (10/10) so good! A pint of Guinness washed everything down. Rauri and the team were great and provided great service. Good luck with the Un- decorating efforts Rauri!

Flawless experience - this place deserves more than 5 stars. We first came in for the décor, stayed for the amazing crew, and were then completely won over by the food… probably the best stew of our entire trip! We loved our first night so much that we came back two days later to split the G during a live concert (as they do on Fridays). Fantastic atmosphere, incredibly kind staff, and lovely customers. Easily one of the highlights of our week in Galway.

The food, service and atmosphere are all amazing. This was my favorite restaurant to visit and we did several time simply because it seemed to have everything. One of the things that stood out was that servers were all very attentive and helpful to out-of-towners as well as patient. They provided friendly service and suggestions that didn’t disappoint. The drink suggestions were spot on and a great way to end the day.

Their chicken curry is absolutely delightful and one of the better ones I had on my recent trip . The burger was large delicious and chips are seasoned nicely. The live music was excellent, not to load and not too soft.

bouncer had a horrible attitude tonight absolutely lashing rain and wouldn’t let three young girls stand under the awning outve the rain for 2 minutes to stay dry his reason being we’re not over 23 as we watched him let multiple people in after us. not the kinda place i’d want to give my money to.

Thank you for sharing your feedback. I am sorry to hear about your disappointing experience with our security team during the rain. Our outdoor awning area is part of our licensed premises, and as such, it operates under our established house rules and policies. While our security staff must adhere to these rules, we sincerely regret that this meant you were unable to take shelter from the rain for a moment. We are truly sorry that your visit was not up to our usual standards of hospitality. We hope you might consider giving us another chance in the future.Alan BroderickGeneral Manager

Great Irish Bar! Went on a Sunday night with a group of mates from Australia and we had fun dancing, laughing and drinking to live music. Everyone enjoyed themselves. Bar staff were nice and just let us enjoy ourselves. Top craic!

This was a welcoming place to sit down with a pint of Guinness. We also had a pint of Galway H Irish pale ale. Very citrusy and refreshing. Made to feel very welcomed sitting at the bar. Great live musical performance by a singer and accompanying guitar player to keep the place alive. Didn't have any of the food, therefore, couldn't rate it.

Wonderful atmosphere since the building itself is very old and it's part of the ancient Galway city walls.

Breakfast option was very good, only thing I asked for Poached eggs but they served me scrumbled ones. I didn't want to "bother" and ask to replace the item.. so I ate that without problems. Beers and Irish coffee was also good!

Where You’ll Find Us

To say we’re in the middle of it all is an understatement because we’re right where Quay Street meets Kirwan’s Lane in Galway’s famous Latin Quarter. Inside and out, you’ll encounter 700 years of history and all it holds
